There is nothing worse than discovering damage to your new fixture a few months after getting it redone. Most contractors should offer warranties. Make sure to ask yours for the warranty they offer in writing.
- Hiring Someone Who Is Flakey
Before signing a contract with any remodeler, you should speak with references. These people will inform you if the company finishes the job in a timely manner or if they left before it was finished, leaving a mess in their wake. You want to ensure this job will get done soon.
- Not Knowing What the Quote Entails
A typical remodeling mistake is a homeowner going with whoever offers the lowest quote. The reason why one quote might be lower than another is that the cheaper quote is leaving out items you will need to pay for anyway. Similar to a warranty, get your detailed quote in writing.
- Using Inferior Materials
Another reason why the quote is low is that the company uses subpar materials. While these materials might save you money now, they are going to fail much more quickly. Generally, it is better financially in the long run to pay more upfront for better materials that will stand the test of time.
- Going Over Budget
You want to make it clear to the contractor upfront what kind of budget you are working with. If the quote is too high, then it might be best to put off the remodeling until you have the funds.
